20th April Liskeard Community Fair

Callington Amateur Radio Society

A great day for Callington and District Radio Society at Liskeard Community Fair .

We were made incredibly welcome by the whole team at Liskeard Public Hall. We had  assistance and early access to erect our antennas on the roof and  a well signed room exclusively for our use.

We promoted Amateur Radio to visitors with videos about Ham Radio on the International Space Station and from the Radio Society of Great Britain about our great hobby. We also gave out many information sheets, free magazines, badges and stickers.

Our special event station talked with other radio hams in 32 different countries from Chennai, India to Nevada, USA and with hams close to Liskeard's twinned towns of Quimperle France and Kopychyntsi in Ukraine.

Younger visitors were keen to have a go and were delighted to speak with enthusiasts around the world (and down the road!) via the QO-100 Amateur Geostationary Satellite, the local amateur repeater on Kit Hill and via D-STAR digital radio system.

Unfortunately due to very high local noise levels we were unable to operate our HF (short wave) station.

Our tag line was "Everything you ever wanted to know about Amateur Radio and more..."

ASTRONAUT TIM PEAKE is a Radio Ham - watch a video of him talking to young people via Amateur Radio from the International Space Station.

CODEBREAKERS! Take our Morse Challenge.

DO YOU KNOW? Who was Marconi and what was he doing in Cornwall?
